Processed Horticulture
USAID-RED is providing technical assistance and support to the major Honduran fruit and vegetable processors. These range from the small-scale microprocessors, who sell to the local market, to the fully automated large scale processors exporting to the U.S.A. and Europe. Technical support and training includes new product development, plant designs and layout, equipment requirements, good manufacturing practices, food safety, HACCP and pre-requisite programs and certifications, raw material supplies, outgrower programs and market development.
Product lines include:
- Pre-cooked and frozen, ready-to-use plantain and cassava product
- Plantain, yuca and sweet potato chips
- Frozen (IQF) mango, melon balls, pineapple, banana and jalapeņo
- Asceptic banana and mango puree
- Single-strength pineapple, mango and passion fruit juices
- Canned pineapple chunks
- Bottled, pickled baby corn, jalapeņo and vegetable mixes
- Jalapeņo in brine
- Tabasco mash
